SL Healthy Wiki

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Whilst googling (!) today I was delighted to come across an old Jaiku post saying I’d motivated PF Anderson to create a SL Healthy Wiki. A great idea and obviously she’s been a lot busier with her project than we have with ours recently (!). This is definitely something else to examine in more detail at a later date.

The concept of Wikis used as a portal for pointing to other web information is an idea I’m pursuing with the Patient Journey wiki (also in Wetpaint - snap) and you can find out more about this project or get involved with it here.

HSC In Second Life - One Month In….

Friday, September 28th, 2007

A month in to our one year project and we’ve had a few visits to our building without doing much advertising other than via this blog and posting to a couple of Second Life Mailing Lists. I’m not sure if these are fabulous figures or not for comparison but it’s worth noting them as we approach the end of September. I’m also aware that the building needs a lot more done to it to make it more interactive which we hope to address in the next few months. Any suggestions gratefully received !

Patient Journeys Wiki Initiated

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I’ve now begun work on the first of two wikis which will form the basis of my research project. The project aims to investigate the use of wikis as an online social space/environment for patients and practitioners who wish to share personal experiences of healthcare and medical treatment as they embark or have embarked on their “patient journey”.

Patient Journeys Wiki is a place to document existing patient journeys already available on the web. I’ve added some links to some existing resources that include Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, IVF, Cystic Fibrosis and Multiple Sclerosis. If you would like to join this project as a contributor to the wiki or have a link that you feel would add something to this online resource then please get in touch with me.

Transliteracy Project

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Transliteracy is defined by PART as the ability to read, write and interact across a range of platforms, tools and media from signing and orality through handwriting, print, TV, radio and film, to digital social networks. This work is following on from the Tags Networks Narrative project which I along with many others took part in last year. Interesting to see how it develops….

Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED)

Monday, September 24th, 2007

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. The Sunday Times calls it “YouTube for intellectuals”. Like Pecha-Kucha it’s limited to a specific time (each lecture being roughly 18 minutes long). An idea worth spreading? See for yourself….

A Daily Slice Of Literature

A simple idea of books in chunks distributed via email - could it be adapted to work in an educational environment ?

Pecha Kucha

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

The idea behind Pecha Kucha: each presenter is allowed a slideshow of 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds each. This results in a total presentation time of 6 minutes 40 seconds. As we are in the middle of conference season this would be a great idea to adopt at a future conference (blurring the boundaries between new media performance art and more traditional death by powerpoint conference presentations…..)

Following on from this years ALT-C workshop Runaway Objects : Preserving Our Digital Belongings I’ve now set up the two wikis which will form the basis of my research project. The project aims to investigate the use of wikis as an online social space/environment for patients who wish to share personal experiences of healthcare and medical treatment as they embark or have embarked on their “patient journey”.

Patient Journeys Wiki - a place to document existing patient journeys already existing on the web.

PEXH Wiki - a place for people to document new patient journeys.

HSC Gallery Visitor Counter Now Working

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

I’ve just managed to get the visitor counter working on the HSC Gallery (I don’t know why the other one wasn’t working - must have been a coding error on my part), so could everyone who has visited the site since we launched it please do so again so I’ve got a record of you all …..only joking :-)
