NHS In Second Life : Second Health

Working in conjunction with the UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL), Imperial College London (ICL) has created a virtual hospital in the 3D virtual world of Second Life and a series of machinima documentary films that describe what healthcare of the future could look like. The design of the virtual hospital  is based on the principles and recommendations outlined in the Healthcare for London: A Framework for Action

NHS Choices

NHS Choices sees the NHS starting to dip their toe tentatively into the wonderful world of web 2.0. How I missed the launch during the summer I don’t know but it looks adequate on a quick glance, although I was hoping for a lot more interactively – perhaps this will come in due course. The site is a bit of a dog’s dinner in terms of design and layout and there needs to be a lot more work done on links supporting a subject (for example, a search on gangrene allows you to look for useful links which include condom essential wear, back pain and abortion !) In terms of recording patient journeys and problems I’m also not sure how well this will cope in the age of spin with the trip advisor model once people start communicating their real views of care and cleanliness in hospitals and elsewhere.

Plymouth 2.0 Trip

A really interesting trip to the University of Plymouth yesterday to talk with Steve Wheeler (Faculty of Education) and Maged Boulos (Faculty of Health & Social Work) about what they were up to in Second Life and elsewhere in the world of Web 2.0. I’ve come back with a big list of reading and links (a sample of which is below…)

Following on from coloured balls and exploding paint the third in the sequence of sony ads tops the Guardian Video Viral Chart – a great example of an inspirational idea with good choice of music from the stones too.
