Blogging at BU : HSC Case Studies

This paper provides details on ten HSC case studies using a variety of internal and external blogging tools during 2006. This addresses the first aim of the Blogging @ BU project which was helping to inform future Bournemouth University strategy regarding the use of blogs. All case study participants were either interviewed or replied to a short questionnaire during late 2006 as a checkpoint to evaluate their experience so far. The paper will discusses these experiences and focus on particular points of interest from a strategic and personal viewpoint.

Glucoboy was launched on World Diabetes Day back in November. It is claimed to be the first blood glucose meter to improve diabetes management using video game technology. The device encourages children with type 1 diabetes to test their blood glucose levels by unlocking new characters and secret game levels available in one of five games.

The Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London has developed a region in Second Life that aims to design game-based learning activities for delivery of virtual patients. The first Virtual Patient can now be accessed in the Respiratory Ward (first floor of the virtual Sir Alexander Fleming building).
