Thanks to our friends at the University of Leeds (and Dickie Mint in particular) we have been able to relocate our HSC Gallery on Education Island – where we will be recreating this project temporarily. It’s still work-in-progress but will hopefully take shape again over the summer…..

Students entering Second Life as virtual paramedics can assess and treat patients by checking their pulse, dressing wounds and administering drugs. They can also access a toolkit, including all the equipment you would typically find in an ambulance, such as oxygen masks and an electrocardiogram (ECG)……

The E-Health Insider reports that Diabetes UK has taken its Silent Assassin campaign into Second Life. Virtual posters have been put up around the 3D virtual world to inform residents about the campaign, which seeks to raise awareness of how diabetes can cause a range of other conditions that leading a healthier lifestyle can help to control…..

We have now come to the end of our one year rental period of office space on Education UK Island 2 within Second Life. The HSC Gallery was a one year exhibit of teleport links to interesting Health & Social Care areas within Second Life. It has been an interesting experiment which will be written up hopefully during the later stages of 2009. At the end of the pilot there were 10 Exhibits in the gallery:

The island was developed with a new resident orientation center, advanced tutorials, and training facilities for individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions. The entire island is accessibility-friendly for new and experienced residents and will provide ongoing classes for people who want to search for and evaluate health information.
